The purpose of the Heritage Walk organized by Red de Museos Providencia and the Tourism Department of Municipalidad de Providencia is to diffuse the cultural heritage of the commune. This is a free activity that will take place on Saturday  April 16th from 10:00am.

The walk consists on visiting the museums that are organizing this activity. Museo Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna exhibits the legacy of an important mayor, politician, historian, journalist, writer and a traveler man. In this place you can find the Historical Library, historical monument since 1992, and the only original place that has been preserved of Casa Quinta parcel that belonged to Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna.

The tour will last four hours approximately. Besides the museums, it includes the visit to heritage milestones of the commune, such as Viña del Mar street which was declared typical area; Parque Bustamante Park and Sermini Castle which is located on José Miguel Infante and Los Jesuitas.

“It is important for Museo Benjamin Vicuña Mackenna, to bring the community closer to the collection the museum has and to get involved with the neighborhood where it is located”, says its Director (s), Solmaría Ramírez.

In Casa Museo Eduardo Frei Montalva, visitors will see the place where the ex-President lived with his family for more than 40 years and today has a collection of more than 350 objects, including the original furniture of the family, several masterpieces of Chilean and Latinamerican paintings, decorations that Eduardo Frei received during his political career, his library that has at least 3.700 books of different subjects and even stone lunar fragments brought to Chile by the crew of Apollo 12.

“As a cultural place, we embrace with enthusiasm the challenge to support this Heritage Walk for third consecutive year. We believe that a museum nowadays has not only the responsibility to protect its heritage object collections, but it also has to contribute in taking care and preserving the heritage that surrounds it, in other words, the neighborhood. And in a certain way, we can all create and rescue memories”, said Maite Gallego, Deputy Director of Casa Museo EFM.

Regarding Museo Histórico Carabineros de Chile, the idea is to make a chronological tour about the history of the police role in Chile, through the different settings and the screens touch of the museum. One of the most important features of the museum is the collection of vehicles, which includes the popemobile that was used by Pope Saint John Paul II during his visit in Chile in 1987.

“Once again Museo Histórico Carabineros de Chile welcomes the visitors to share with them our heritage and of our district. That’s why we are inviting people to spend a nice family day in Providencia”, said the journalist of the museum, Paola Garrido.

The activity will have two meeting points. The first one will be at Museo Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna (located at Av. Vicuña Mackenna 94) and the second one will be at Museo Histórico Carabineros de Chile (located at Antonio Varas 1690 with Vasconia). Between one visit and the other, the group will make a stop to visit Casa Museo Eduardo Frei Montalva, (located at Hindenburg 683).
