Educational Program

29 de October de 2018

In Chile, the traditional teaching of political history is basically based on textbooks, which place in a second place the human and familiar profile of its protagonists and managers. A House Museum, set with original objects belonging to a former Head of State of the relevance of Eduardo Frei Montalva, will be a teaching resource for the dissemination and use of heritage as a source of educational inspiration.

The House Museum offers a program of educational activities, from knowledge of a family with strong vocation of public service; it will illuminate the republican tradition of the country, linking the contents of the museum with the academic interests of students and teachers.

The educational program follows a design that projects it as an effective support for the teaching-learning process in matters linked to the history of our country, particularly in a period where occurred important events related to social and economic development of republican and democratic Chile.

The preparation of the educational program includes crossing Fundamental Transversal Objectives (FTO) Fundamental Vertical Objectives (FVO) Minimum Compulsory Content (MCO) and expected learning outcomes of the curriculum of the Ministry of Education.

For the first and second level of transition (NT1, NT2) the scope of experience for learning related to the visit to Casa Museo is “Relationship with the Natural and Cultural Environment “, being the specific nucleus of learning of  ” Human groups , lifestyles and relevant events.” Based on these contents, we have prepared a tutorial that you can download in the tutorials section.

Regarding the NB1 levels (1st and 2nd grade) and NB2 (3rd and 4th grade) the curriculum chosen sector for the pedagogical work in the Museum is “Understanding the Natural, Social and Cultural environment”. Based on these contents, we have prepared a tutorial for NB1 and NB2.

Finally, the base of 5th grade educational program to IV th year is given by the curricular sector, “History, Geography and Social Sciences”, built through ten thematic areas addressed during the tour of the house, giving different emphasis depending on the level of the visiting group. These lines are: respect for diversity, the rights of people and the democratic system; everyday life in the 60s; cultural heritage and national identity; environment; international relations and political geography: Latin America and the world; Christian democracy and social Christianity; political history of Chile; evolution and economic diversity of Chile; social justice and freedom and revolution in political institutions and administrative division of the territory.

The educational program of 5th grade to 1° year is updated according to the schedule of curricular adjustment, presented by the Ministry of Education, which was launched in March 2010. In the organization of the activities which are performed at each visit by the House Museum have been incorporated evaluation indicators delivered by maps progress, emphasizing the critical observation of reality through the incorporation of personal experiences in the problematization of social reality and active participation and criticism based on the redefinition of the interpretation of the past and present. The teaching guides of these courses can be downloaded at the tutorials section.

In the case of IIº IVº year, educational programs not yet have changes in curriculum adjustments. The teaching guides of these courses can be downloaded in the tutorial section.

For this we have a guide service at the history area, previously trained for the visiting public, which invite you to visit and live this house in an attractive and educational way for students, also using information technologies.

The collection includes: furniture, artwork, photographs, decorative objects original of the house, personal belongings of the former president and his family, books that make up the personal library of Eduardo Frei Montalva, diplomas, documents and degrees.

Undoubtedly, this learning experience will complement the recent history of Chile outside the classroom. This heritage property also gives the possibility of transferring different levels of knowledge from the senses through perception, from concepts through logic and intuition from across values.
