EFM House Museum celebrates Arts Education Week 2018

13 de April de 2018

From May 15th to 18th Eduardo Frei Montalva House Museum celebrates the Arts Education Week for elementary and secondary students with heritage guided tours and workshops.

For the sixth year we invite schools throughout Chile to participate in the Arts Education Week (SEA for its acronym is Spanish), an international celebration promoted by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) that arrives to in Chile under the slogan “The expression of difference”, a  call to position diversity as a value in the educational experience.

Thus, from May 15th to 18th, Eduardo Frei Montalva House Museum joins in the activities for elementary and secondary students with guided tours through the residency of the president and his family, currently National Monument (2005) that keeps intact the lifestyle of the 1960s in Chile.

During the visit, students will apply their knowledge about history in our time line of the 20th century and will know the value of House Museum as heritage property that has a valuable and representative collection of Chilean and Latin-American paintings (19th and 20th century) with illustrious painters like Juan Francisco González, Pedro Lira, Nemesio Antúnez and Oswaldo Guayasamín, among many others; they will also be able to appreciate the original furniture, decorations, numismatics and fragments of moonstone brought by the Apollo 11’s crew.

For secondary school students, EFM House Museum prepared the “Geometry, Art and Science” workshop, taught by the physicist, teacher and science commentator Javier Baeza. The activity suggests a complementary vision of science (as nature observer), mathematics (as descriptor) and art (in the search of its beauty and emotion). There will be an exhibition of artists that have explored geometric elements in their paintings, and a simple physical experiment that recreates infinity of geometry figures will be replicated, so that students will create their own painting using mathematic tools and colors as means of expression.
