Condecoration Order of the Sun of Peru

The order is a reward for exceptional military and civilian merits. It is conferred upon Peruvians and foreigners, especially Presidents.

The order consists of an pin, a sash, and a badge. The pin is in the form of golden rays, bearing a green enameled laurel wreath. At its center, there is the coat of arms of Peru surrounded by the outer inscription “EL SOL DEL PERÚ – 1821” in red enamel. The badge is equally shaped and hangs from a purple sash.

The decoration is conferred upon President Eduardo Frei as a result of the close friendship between him and the President of Peru at the time, Fernando Belaúnde Terry.
